Eligibility Rules

PIAA Eligibility Rules

1. Academic Requirements

  • Students must be full-time students following a curriculum approved by the school principal.
  • Grades are checked twice each week.

Pre-Eligibility Check

  • On Wednesdays, a Pre-Eligibility Check is conducted.
  • Coaches notify students if they are failing or close to failing any class.
  • Students then have until Friday to complete missing work and improve their grades.

Weekly Eligibility Check

  • Official eligibility is run every Friday.
  • If a student is failing two (2) or more classes, they become ineligible for the following week (Monday–Sunday).
  • If by the next Friday the student is no longer failing two (2) or more classes, they will regain eligibility the following Monday.

Ineligibility Consequences

  • 1st Time Ineligible
    • The student may still practice but cannot participate in contests.
  • 2nd Time Ineligible
    • The student may not practice or participate in contests.
    • The student must focus on improving their grades.
  • 3rd Time Ineligible
    • The student will be removed from the team in order to focus on academics.

 

15-Day Rule

  • If a student receives two (2) or more failing grades at the end of a marking period, they are ineligible to participate in contests for 15 school days following that marking period.
  • If a student ended the previous school year with two (2) or more failing grades and did not make them up over the summer, they will be ineligible for the first 15 school days of the new school year.

 

2. Attendance Requirements

Daily Attendance

  • Students must be in school by 11:00 AM in order to participate in practice or games that day.
  • The Athletic Director or Principal may waive this requirement in special cases involving excused absences.

Suspension

  • If a student receives In-School Suspension (ISS) or Out-of-School Suspension (OSS):
    • They cannot practice or participate in contests during the suspension.
  • The student may resume participation the day after the suspension ends.
